DISCOVER PUNTA DEL ESTE

We could define the conditions for this sport as very good but unconsistent since the sea and wind conditions are very variable. But when the right conditions are presented we can find a lot of breakers with waves of all categories, ranging from beginner level to peaks for advanced surfers.

Because of their low consistency, it may be that days, even weeks, without waves but when the conditions are right, countless peaks with world-class waves work for all tastes and levels.

Many of the peaks break on sandbars on open beaches or mouths of rivers and streams, which are formed according to storms or heavy rains that move the sand. This causes new spikes to appear and others to stop working, often giving a good reward to surfers willing to go out looking for new peaks.

Although there are waves throughout the year, the best conditions occur in the autumn months (March to May) as the water has not yet cooled so much and the winds are warmer.
Waves work with swells from E to SW depending on the orientation of each beach. For offshore wind conditions the wind direction goes from NE to O, also depending on the orientation of the beach. The water temperature varies depending on the seasons requiring a short suit in the summer months (December to March), long suit 3’2 for the months of spring and autumn. And in the winter months (June to September) the water is much cooler being necessary long suit 4’3″, boots, hood and gloves, in this period it is very likely that the water temperature will not exceed 14oC.
