Each year, thousands of passengers choose it as a quick and comfortable way to arrive in Punta del Este, to the point that in 2016 it reached a record 3,576 landings of private aircraft. Most of the flights came from Argentina and Brazil, with a special accumulation between the last week of December and the first of January, when tourists of high purchasing power arrived at the spa. At the beginning of 2017, the number of flights increased by 12% compared to the previous year, following the growing trend since 2013.
Entrepreneurs, artists, stars of the international and regional jet set circulate through the magnificent building, the work of the renowned Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott, who managed to integrate his cutting edge proposal with the latest technology, in a structure of 13,000 m2 developed on three floors.
The traditional runway of Laguna del Sauce was completely removed, repaved and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. To this was added the new large track of 2,133 meters in length and 45 meters wide, equipped with modern visual aid systems, and oriented according to the prevailing winds.
In addition, with the construction of the new commercial aviation platform of more than 43,000 m2, the Airport is capable of housing more than five simultaneous self-propelled Boeing 737s. Added to this a second platform, of more than 50,000 m2, intended for the traffic of small planes, executive flights and air taxis. Its facilities are prepared to meet all the needs of the users, without neglecting the natural environment in which it is immersed.
